Economy and competitiveness

Enhancing the competitiveness of countries, regions and businesses lies at the heart of economic development strategies within the SADC region. At the same time, the developments in neighboring and developing countries are posing challenges to trade relations, development cooperation and sustainable development.
Regions are increasingly the engines of the global economy. At the heart of successful regions are competitive firms. But competitiveness is more than just a strong economy. It is also about the distribution of the benefits of economic success.
The CTPD Management Consultants Group and its operating companies can offer support in all stages of the policy cycle. Fields in which CTPD Management Consultants has ample expertise vary from innovation, competitiveness and competition policy to industry and trade, public finance management and the economics of water and energy management.

  1. eGovernment
  2. Water and environment
  3. Innovation science and technology policy
  4. Information and communication technologies

Regions, Cities and Real Estate

In order to be able to develop a region, city or village to its full potential, a clear course and policy are needed. This calls for insight into problems, strengths, challenges and solutions in all aspects of society. CTPD Management Consultants provides this insight, based on advice, research and process management.

Urban and rural regeneration is one of the focal points of SADC and national governments. A fundamental task for policymakers and practitioners is to ensure that investment made today, will deliver value in the future. The pursuit of ambitious provinces, regions, cities and main ports is to create and sustain a comfortable environment and a high-quality climate for investment for civilians and companies. In a united SADC, the role of regions in achieving this goal is becoming more important. Strong and balanced policy that's benificial to civilians and investors demands insight into the functioning of own areas and regions, knowledge of other (competitor) areas and regions with which collaborations are in place.

CTPD Management Consultants offers support for the entire policy cycle. From problem definition, to the development of vision and strategy and specifying results. Our solutions are based on our broad experience and thorough research. In executing our projects, we collaborate closely with our clients and other relevant parties in the region.

Transport, Mobility and Infrastructure

Movement and communication in contemporary society has become increasingly complex. Demand is more diverse and the infrastructure, both hardware and institutional software is also in a state of flux. Integration, privatization, deregulation and pricing are all affecting our understanding of and our capacity to plan for these dynamic transport and mobility markets. Sensitive analyses and radical solutions are the order of the day.
CTPD Management Consultants offers the knowledge and the means for well-founded decisions with respect to transport, infrastructure, logistics and network sectors. We enable professional assessment of policy options and strategic business plans based on substantive inputs. Our research, advice and process management/support provide you with the desired support in every step of the decision making process.

We provide clients with comprehensive analysis and creative solutions to economic and related questions in the fields of mobility, infrastructure and logistics. Sound decision-making starts with a good understanding of the situation at hand based on well conceived research and rigorous analysis. We provide insights into the strategic options, future demand and the requirements for realizing sustainable transport infrastructure and services. The issues of concern are always closely interrelated with economic and social demand, as well as a wide range of other factors such as spatial planning, environment, engineering, and safety. We take these into account and encapsulate them in our approach and working methods.

Social Policy and Governance

The economic climate in SADC is improving and in most countries, the number of people working is higher than it has been for many years. However, sustainable economic growth cannot be achieved without complementary measures in the social field which balance conflicting social pressures and marshal human resources within an efficient and socially fair framework. Such concerns span the domain of education and training, labour markets, equal opportunities, social inclusion, industrial relations and the social dialogue, justice and home affairs, social protection and the social economy. They are of concern as much to firms as to governments.

Worklessness is used to refer to all people of working age who are without work. Geographically, worklessness can be identified in pockets of areas affected by deprivation. However, the range of barriers to work across different populations is more difficult to define and understand the cause and effect of labour market engagement. In addition to these difficulties, we understand the issues that regional and local organisations face when tackling worklessness and providing better opportunities to work. The key challenges are:

  1. Improving performance with less money. Changes in structural funds has led to diminishing available funds;
  2. Increasing percentage of local people taking local jobs;
  3. Creating sustainable employment;
  4. Achieving progression once in work;
  5. Reaching the hard to engage

The CTPD Management Consultants Group has a long tradition of employment research and consultancy and has played an important role in shaping, communicating and implementing policy developments to clients at SADC, national and local levels. Our employment research is conducted across the full policy cycle, from policy conception to communicating 'what works'. We appreciate the importance of partnership working and gaining public, private and voluntary sector involvement and as such are continually developing our tools to support these challenges.
